Fennessy Hired as Director of High School Programs

SPOTLIGHT
New Hire

Bill Fennessy has joined the THINK Together family. Bill will be the Director of High School Programs, supporting the implementation and development of Valley and Century High programs in Santa Ana, as well as Gladstone and Azusa High programs in Azusa.

Bill will be based out of the home office in Santa Ana and can be reached at extension 8129 or via email.

Bill began his after-school experience as a PasadenaLEARNs Site Coordinator for Blair International Baccalaureate Magnet School in 2003. The new after-school program, BlairLEARNs, received one of the first “pilot” ASSETs (After School Safety and Enrichment for Teen) grants late in 2004, and Bill started the first full year of high school programming in the 2005/2006 school year. Through independent evaluations, the program at Blair was quickly recognized as one of the top High School “after-school” programs.

In a recent publication, After-School Grows Up, Bill reflected on the varied strategies implemented at Blair to make the program inviting to high school youth stating, “Our philosophy is that some of our kids need more time to get through school, and after-school provides us with that time. With the program, we build in that extra time, and anchor that time in a relationship.” Speaking of relationships, building relationships with students and staff have been key to Bill’s success at BLAIR where he facilitated students running a variety of interest-based clubs with advisor support, community-based organizations and other vendors offering special programming and a sub-set of teachers to round out the after-school staff.

Bill is currently an Association of Pasadena School Administrators Board Member, a PasadenaLEARNs Advisory Board Member, a Los Angeles County Office of Education High School Afterschool Evaluator, the Vice President of the First Tee of Pasadena, as well as being actively involved several other local organizations. In recent years, Bill has been giving nation-wide presentations on High School after-school programs.

We are looking forward to Bill and his High School Team building programs at our four pilot sites that will include a mix of academic enrichment, community-based programming, academic credit recovery, traditional school sports and clubs, and mentoring, all operating under one umbrella T3—THINK Together Teen. After we move through the pilot phase, our plans are to scale our high school programs throughout our regional footprint. Please join with us in welcoming Bill to THINK Together.

THINK Together is serious about helping kids achieve!

THINK Together is making a difference in the lives of more than 100,000 California students. The non-profit organization's trained staff, dedicated volunteers and generous donors are providing extended learning time programs (after-school, summer learning, small group tutoring, early literacy, etc.) and resources to help these kids, their families and their communities achieve. Our programs, generally free for at-risk students and low-income families, are predominately available at public school sites across Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino, San Diego and now Sacramento Counties.
